Due to APIRG bylaw V-9 being triggered, the Alberta Public Interest Research Group (APIRG) is holding a by-election for its Board of Directors on Friday, January 26th, 2018.

APIRG bylaw V-9 states that “where fewer than two-thirds (2/3) of the Directors that were elected by the membership remain sitting, an election must be held to fill vacancies.”

Therefore, two (2) vacancies must be filled in this by-election. The term of the newly-elected Board members will last from their election until the end of April 2018.

Nomination packages will be available soon both electronically and in the APIRG office located at 9111 HUB Mall.

Any undergraduate student at the University of Alberta who has not opted-out of their APIRG fee is eligible to run for a position on the Board. Nomination packages are due Friday, January 19th, 2018.

Candidates will participate in at least one public event where they will speak.

This by-election will not impact the regular Board elections to take place in the spring. If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors in 2018-2019, you may still participate in this by-election.

The Chief Returning Officer (CRO) for this by-election is Evan MacDonald. You may contact him with election-related questions at cro@apirg.org.
