In honour of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence Awareness Week, Students Against Sexual Violence (SASV) welcome you to learn about Preventing Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence, presented by @saffroncentre
ECHA 2-121, Feb 3 12:00pm -1:00pm
As outlined by the Saffron Centre…
This presentation begins by defining ‘Technology Facilitated Sexual Violence’ and explores why and how sexual violence is so prevalent in the online world. We discuss various tactics commonly used by online offenders to harass, manipulate, & blackmail, with an emphasis on sextortion, grooming & luring. This presentation also discusses frequent exposure to pornography at a young age and the effects it can have on brain & relationship development. We then explore the world of ‘sexting’; discussing the current culture and “risks” surrounding sexting and providing practical recommendations in an attempt to make the behavior safer. Importantly, we also discuss the legal ramifications surrounding non-consensual image sharing and ‘revenge porn.’ Lastly, we address cyberstalking and provide students with various resources to help them navigate online harassment & violence, as well as specific resources for removing intimate images from the internet
Please note that this event will be following COVID precautions
